Harvest

And here is my harvest, such as it is. The two red ones were picked earlier in the week. The others I brought in last night. I happened to check the weather about 9:45pm and saw that we were under a frost advisory. I did not want to lose what tomatoes I had, so I grabbed a flashlight and my pruning clippers and headed out into the yard. Don't know if they will ripen, but at least I won't lose them without trying my best to save them.

And these puny things are my corn harvest. Not much, huh? Well, that's OK. Maybe the squirrels will enjoy them. (Or the little possum that comes around most nights.)

I got the last tomato off my container plant a while back. Now I've just been watching birds pluck leaves and pieces of string off of it before I toss it into a compost pile.

My garden is heading the same way. The season is over for me, but it was fun while it lasted.

Three words for you -- Fried Green Tomatoes!!

Yummy in a sandwich with bacon. Or with grits --- and gravy made from the drippings.

I tried to make those once years ago and didn't have very good luck. I think I will try again, though.

Sometimes the tomatoes that dont look picture purfect are the best tasting ones(unless they have started to go bad). It's good you got them before the frost .Boy i sure dont miss that cold weather. It's still been in the 90's here at day and 50's at night.however we are having a little cool down.We actually got a little rain and soon the tropical climate here will rain for the winter with temps only down to about 35 or so.

Yeah, only thing is, we never did get that frost. It got into the low 40's though.

Cold weather is one reason I'm glad we live up here. Used to live on the NC coast and down in Savannah, GA. Big difference. I like the different seasons, and snow once in a while doesn't hurt, either. :0) (I wouldn't trade my cold weather for your threat of earthquakes for anything.) ;-)
