Snow Kitties

We got over a foot of snow up here in the mountains, and a bit more is falling now. I figured the kittens wouldn't leave the front porch except maybe to go to the basement while the fluffy white stuff was on the ground, and boy was I wrong. Besides following me around the yard while I took some pictures, they actually played in the snow. Google especially seemed to be enjoying himself.

I would love to edit our voices out of the video, but don't have the software on this computer. But it's cool, watching little Google play in the snow like that. This is before the bulk of the snow fell, of course, and later on, when it was so deep, he mostly played in areas where I had walked.

Hope followed me out into the yard, but wasn't real happy about it. She stayed right next to the house, then walked out to get under the car. From there, she ended up under the storage building, then hightailed it under the deck.

Was surprised to see her sitting in the snow on the deck with Google for a bit.

Yahoo did follow me around the yard, but not for long. He stayed mostly under the deck (trying to clean snow off his fur)...

...or on the porch, curled up on his favorite cushion.

I really want to find a home for these guys. They are just the sweetest things. Yahoo especially loves to sit on your lap and be held. They are still young enough that they would make great indoor kitties. (They are constantly trying to come in our front door.) They are now spayed/neutered and are up-to-date on their shots. All I ask for their adoption is a donation to the local animal shelter. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Spring in the Mountains

Here are some photos from today (April 7th, 09). I had to check the calendar. It's spring, right?

In case I haven't said it 100 times before....I love snow.

But I really would like to get my garden planted.

Always Welcome Fluffy White Stuff

Just some snow pictures today.

Ankle deep snow, too fluffy to make a snowman or a good snowball, but very beautiful.

Muffin hates the stuff, and really hates the wind (as do I) but still insists on following me around the yard as I take pictures...complaining all the while.

If the squirrels want corn today, they're going to have to work a bit for it.

Yet More Snow Photos and a Poem

I was trying to be all "artsy" and take a photo of my watering can (sign of spring) sitting in the snow (sign of winter), when Tango decided he needed to be in the picture. I think he just looked at the pristine patch of snow, with not a single footprint in it, and figured he needed to "fix" that.

This is one of my little garden art thingies. It's solar powered and glows at night. And, it's a cat, so of course I had to have it.

This is another one of my garden art objects. I love how peaceful this statue/bird feeder looks...even more so with the snow covering it.

Dust of Snow
By Robert Frost

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

(I love snow and Robert Frost poems.)

And Yet More Snow!!!

We have a bit over two inches of snow on the ground right now. I think I mentioned earlier in the week how much I love snow. If I didn't...well, I really LOVE snow. :-)

The cat I have taken to calling Drifter on the other hand doesn't look too happy about this whole snow thing. (BTW: She's letting me get a bit closer, but still not quite close enough to touch.)

And my neighbor's cat Tango doesn't look too thrilled either. Note the scratch on his nose. He and Drifter tend to get into fights that I have to go out and stop, and his nose is the spot that usually takes the brunt of it. (The fights are getting fewer. Maybe they're finally getting used to each other.)

The yard is covered...

The driveway is covered...

And since the cover to my swing was destroyed by high winds a couple months ago, the swing is covered as well.

I still love snow......

More Snow! YIPPEE!!

I love snow! I LOVE snow!! I LOVE SNOW!!!

Did I mention that I love snow?!?!

I got up at 4am as usual, and there was a very, very light dusting of snow on the ground. A little more snow has been added here and there, so there is just a bit more on the ground now.

Would love to see more snow on the ground, but I'm happy with what we have. I love snow. (Did I say that already?) :-)

Muffin, on the other hand, was not a very happy camper. She followed me out into the yard and then sat staring at me with that wonderful glare of hers, alternately lifting each front paw from the cold ground. Told her it was her own fault for following me, but you know how cats are.

The not quite 30 degree weather plus the snow plus the wonderful smell coming from my neighbor's wood stove...What a beautiful day it is.

First Snow

It's not much, but it's snow all the same. I was talking to a man at the post office this morning, and he said this is the earliest he's seen snow up here. I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come. I love snow.

For some reason, waking up to the white stuff makes me happy as heck. Actually, it started coming down as we were leaving our writers' group meeting last night, and it made me happy as heck then. I get giddy at the sight of the stuff.

Ah, dreams of sleigh bells and white Christmases abound.

Morning Thoughts

So "they" say that with every fog in August, you'll get a snow in the winter....right? I'm very hopeful then, as we've had fog almost every morning here. I love snow and I'd like to see a good bit of it this winter. Maybe there's hope after all. (And do you ever wonder who "they" are?)
Today's the day for spiders at my house. There was a huge web hanging in the front yard; attached to a tree, a bush and the bumper of my husband's truck. (How do they do that?) It was beautiful, but in a spot that would have made a clear photo almost impossible. (I'm sure some photographer out there could have found a way.)

Then there was this guy. His web was located at the top of the back steps. It extended from the house, to the deck, to the railing. (Again, how do they do that.) I caught sight of him as he was wrapping up breakfast. (Or maybe he was saving it as a snack for later.) I managed to get a couple decent pictures before Muffin jumped up on the railing and broke the web.

Cats! What can ya' do?
